2014 import reissue on 180-gram vinyl LP. Band leader Greg Dulli originally envisioned quot;Black Lovequot; as the soundtrack to a film noir movie he was working on. Ultimately, the movie never got made, but he still had a complete album of dark indie rock songs. The album got off to a rocky start as drummer Steve Earle left the band before the studio sessions started in 1995. Paul Buchigani replaced him, and the album was ready for release in 1996. quot;Honky's Ladderquot; was the album's hit single, and the record reaped critical acclaim. Still more of a quot;cultquot; favorite among fans, the album only peaked at #79 on the Billboard 200 chart. This 2014 reissue was cut on 180-gram vinyl.
