DiChickO's makes a number of sauces and marinades using peri-peri peppers. In addition to 175,000 Scoville units of heat, peri-peris are a rich source of vitamin A, C and beta carotene. Peri-Peri means "pepper pepper" in Swahili. The specific pepper referred to is the African Bird's Eye Pepper. This fiery pepper is very small and can be found in African and Portuguese cuisine. The pepper was carried back by Portuguese traders to Angola and Mozambique, and then ultimately to Portugal.
