And the newer Pliocene, or upper members of the 128 diluvial action. tertiary and the more recent sedimentary deposits to the north, are often, apparently, so blended and so analogous in their more general physical characteristics as to render it almost impossible, where the fossiliferous indices are absent, to draw any line of demarcation between many of the several accumulations, or to determine their true geologic character and position.
