Born and raised in Hoboken, NJ, Mike Korman is making a musical comeback of sorts. Guitarist in the 1980's Hoboken band quot;Gut Bankquot;, Korman stopped playing music in 1987 to pursue a career in his hometown, working at City Hall. quot;I was inspired by reform Mayor Tom Vezzetti to serve in governmentquot;, said Korman. Still working for the City of Hoboken, Korman has begun exploring music again. quot; For 20 years I didn't pick up a guitar. But in 2007, I bought a used acoustic guitar at a flea market and began playing some old riffs - then applying some lyrics I had written years ago, quot; said Korman. The result is a collection of new recordings - a solo album quot;Hoboken Rocksquot;. Mike Korman has an audio engineering background. He records all his own music and plays all the instruments. quot; What I am doing now is way beyond me just playing guitar in a band, quot; said Korman. quot;I'm creating my own songs, singing for the 1st time, performing better than I ever have in the past. I put a lot of work in the process and it's enjoyable.quot; Mike Korman played guitar with several groups during the 1980's post-punk scene in New York City and played a part in the famed quot;Hoboken Soundquot; with Gut Bank. Korman was a member of the 1983 Lower East Side group quot; The Keeperquot;, made up of band members Michael Goglia the early drummer of psychedelic garage rockers quot; The Fuzztonesquot;, vocalist Parker Dulany of NYC's overlooked quot;Certain Generalquot; and Tommy Victor, founder of longtime industrial metal band quot;Prongquot;, who played bass. Korman also played in the NYC groups quot;Mistaken Identityquot; and quot;No Thanksquot;, both part of the NYC underground post-punk scene during the early 1980's. Gut Bank, which toured often garnering a large fan base, enjoyed success from 1985 leading up to it's 1987 album release quot; The Dark Agesquot; on Coyote / Twintone Records, and often opened for H??sker D?? a
