Memories of his fiancee are the only things that get Army Ranger Chase McCloud through months of captivity & torture by the Taliban. After being rescued, he learns that she has disappeared and his search convinces him that she's dead. Overwhelmed by grief, Chase shuts himself off from everyone, losing himself in an alcohol-induced fog. Kate's privileged and peaceful existence is shattered when she unknowingly becomes the center of a master plan that includes murder, greed and dirty politics. Believing that Chase died in Afghanistan, Kate is forced to flee for her life and vanishes deep into the country of southwest Colorado. Resisting help from his Lakota relatives, they nevertheless use mystical native ways to heal Chase and he receives a vision that Kate is still alive. Fate finally brings him to her, but with Chase being shadowed, the nightmare that Kate escaped quickly finds her again. To stay together, they must confront the forces that tore them apart.
