The device allows connection of 1 HDMI device and 1 DVI device at the same time. Front panel controls allow selection between HDMI and DVI inputs. The output resolution can be adjusted to match the input, selecting from 8 different standard video settings, providing the clearest picture quality possible. This makes the SB-2833 unique, as most similar devices drop the HD input to SVGA resolution (600x800).
While most computer monitors are considered to be SVGA, in actuality they are capable of displaying much higher resolution. The SB-2833 makes use of this capability, allowing the monitor to display all standard resolutions up to WUXGA, which is 1920x1200 pixels. By comparison, SDTV is only 480x720 (480i).
The unit automatically detects the input format between 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p and adjusts itself accordingly. The only adjustment the user has to make is for the output resolution. This is done through an 8 position rotary switch on the back of the unit.
When using HDMI input, the SB-2833 outputs both digital and analog audio signals, for connection to an audio amplifier or directly to amplified speakers. Since DVI is a video-only signal, the audio signal from a DVI device will have to be routed directly to the audio amplifier or speakers.
The SB-2833 is designed for worldwide use with a universal power supply accepting 110 to 230 VAC, at either 50 or 60Hz. Adapter plugs are provided for all standard voltages used worldwide. Connecting the adapter automatically adapts the power supply to match the voltage.
